So you've got your site. How do you start to attract people to it? Good question, here are five excellent tips below.
1. Tell your friends all about it. They should be your very first port of call in getting people to your site. Word of mouth is very very powerful.
2. After you informed all the people around you, start joining in forums with topics related to your website/blog. Putting your site’s URL in your signature is easy to do. Most forums nowadays uses Vbulletin script so you just need to click on your user control panel and click on edit signature. If the forum uses other scripts like phpBB, SMF, or IPB, just click on your profile and find “edit signature” If there is no “edit signature” link inside your User CP or Profile, this means that the forum does not allow signature, or has a number of post requirement. Read the rules of every forum before you join to avoid losing time.
3. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com and create a group related to your blog/site. The process is prompted by yahoo and you will find your way doing it so just go on. After you created a group, Post a message about your website, or even advertise your own website on your very first post. Remember to set the moderation to all incoming posts to avoid receiving spam into your group. Start inviting everyone you know with email address by going to “invite link”. You may even browse other groups related to yours, get other members’ usernames and send invitation. (I will explain further how to do this in my next post). People who join your group will automatically be included in your network of audience that you may use in future promotion.
4. Another effective way is to join friendster.com and myspace.com, invite others into your group and after you have them, tell them about your site.
5. Blog commenting. Read other’s blogs related to your website and post some short comments with your URL. Wordpress script has a field for URL concealed by your user name when the comment is published. This is good way to start link building.
The five different method above are just the basics, but if you are dedicated enough you will get a massive traffic, especially with yahoo groups.
